A

Acid: LSD.
Adam: MDMA; Ecstasy.
AK47: Seriously STRONG strain of Sativa cannabis.
Amphetamines: Stimulants or "uppers" -- usually made synthetically in illegal labs. Effects on the user are feelings of increased energy, a release of social inhibitions, and the notion that he/ she is more than usually clever and competent. Similar to cocaine, but longer lasting.
Amyl Nitrate: Inhalant liquid drugs (only the vapour is inhaled) commonly known as "poppers".
Angel Dust: PCP

B

Bar: Solid block of cannabis resin held together with sugar or honey.
Bad Trip: Highly unpleasant experience whilst on hallucinogenic drugs. The user only sees & thinks bad things.
Barley: Charlie, cocaine.
Beans: Ecstasy tablets.
Benz: £10 worth of cannabis.
Bhang: An astringent and narcotic drug made from the dried leaves and seed capsules of wild hemp (Cannabis Indica), and chewed or smoked in the East as a means of intoxication.
Bifta: Joint.
Bill Up: Roll a joint.
Billy: Billy-Whizz; amphetamines.
Black: Soft, pliable, solid cannabis. Can be rolled into thin, sausage-like pieces and put into joints.
Blazed: To be very high from smoking cannabis.
Blazing/ Blazin': Smoking marijuana.
Blim: Small piece of solid cannabis (hash). Hot blims that fall onto your clothes, leaving holes, are often called "hot rocks".
Blotto: Extremely intoxicated (usually refers to alcohol).
Blow: Weed, cannabis, marijuana etc.
Blow-back: Smoking technique: One person holds a joint in his/ her mouth the wrong way round, with the roach end sticking out, then blows smoke through the end into the mouth of another person.
Blunt: A tobacco leaf, natural or dipped in flavouring, used to make hand-rolled cannabis cigars. Blunts are filled with pure weed.
Bob Hope: Dope (rhyming slang).
Bogart: To hog (not pass on) a joint.
Bomb: Small amount of drugs, usually amphetamines, wrapped in rolling paper for the purpose of ingesting; To ingest a bomb of drugs.
Bong: Water-filled smoking device: The water filters the smoke as it travels from the pipe end to the mouthpiece. Very economic method as very little smoke is wasted. Often made from glass or bamboo. Homemade versions are usually old plastic bottles.
Booda: See "Buddha".
Brick: lkg (2.25lb) of compressed cannabis.
Bucket: Hardcore smoking device: A bucket is filled with water and a large plastic bottle with the bottom cut off is placed inside, mouthpiece facing up. The mouthpiece holds a gauze which is filled with cannabis. The user lights the cannabis and simultaneously lifts the bottle slowly until it's almost out of the water. The bottle fills up with smoke. The user takes off the gauze and inhales the smoke through the mouthpiece in one hit.
Bud: The fresh or dried flowers of a female cannabis plant/ a small lump of weed.
Buddha/ Booda: Joint made with extra-strong weed.
Bullet: Device used carry and administer cocaine through the nose.
Bum: To leave the end of the joint all soggy & wet for the next person. Not good smoking etiquette.
Bun: To smoke.
Burgers: Ecstasy.
Bush: Weed.
Busted: Getting caught taking, holding or selling drugs.
Butlins: The end or "butt" of a joint. When you ask someone if they want to smoke the butt of the joint you can say "Butlins?"
Buzz: A high achieved from taking drugs. Often associated with amphetamines.

C

Camberwell Carrot: "It is called a Camberwell Carrot because I invented it in Camberwell and it looks like a carrot."Danny, Withnail & I (British cult classic film), referring to an enormous spliff.
Caned: Under the influence of cannabis, stoned.
Cannabis Indica: Cannabis strains indigenous to northern mountain ranges of Asia. Indica strains are typically stronger, more potent, fatter and heavier than Sativa strains.
Cannabis Sativa: Cannabis strains indigenous to Mexico, Columbia, Thailand, India, Africa many other areas. They can be identified by their typical pine tree-like appearance they are not as heavy as Indica plants. Taste is fruity they have more flowers than Indica plants. A smoker will experience a clear and cerebral high.
Canoe: A badly rolled joint that burns down one side, leaving the shape the paper looking like a canoe.
CBD (Cannabidiol): One of several cannaboids that interacts with THC to alter its effects. This one makes you sleepy and relaxed, but is not psychoactive.
Charlie: Cocaine.
Cheech and Chong: Cult 1970s pot-heads who made several films and records about smoking dope.
Cheeky Half: Half an ecstasy tablet.
Chill: Get stoned. Euphemism often used by teenagers.
Chillum/ chalice: Traditional Indian smoking device: a cone shaped pipe often made from clay that is held vertically as you inhale.
Chip: To break a cigarette in half in order to skin up.
Chronic: Highly potent, quality cannabis. Often skunk.
Chuff: Smoke, puff, inhale.
Coke: Cocaine.
Comedown: The low, agitated experience felt when a drug-induced high is wearing off.
Coming up: When drugs you have taken begin to have an effect (most commonly referred to with ecstasy use). Feelings experienced are often rushes through the body, dizziness, accelerated heartbeat and breathlessness.

D

Dealer: Someone who sells drugs.
Devil's Dandruff: Cocaine.
Devil's Dust: Cocaine.
Dexies: Dexedrine, dexamphetamine sulphate; amphetamine-type CNS stimulants.
Disco Biscuits: Ecstasy tablets.
Doobie: Joint. Originated in 1960s from cult US TV show, Romper Room. Later made popular by Cheech and Chong and the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers.
Dope: Any controlled substance, often cannabis.
Dope Fiend: Someone who's crazy about dope, they like it so much they're turning green.
Double Dipped: An acid tab that has been dipped in acid twice, making it twice as strong.
Double Drop: Take two tablets at once, usually ecstasy.
Downers: Depressant drugs.
Drag: A puff on a joint or cigarette.
Draw: 1: marijuana; 2: a measurement of marijuana, eg a £10 draw; 3: to inhale from a cigarette or a joint.
Drop: Take tablet, usually ecstasy.
Dust: PCP/ Angel Dust

E

E: Ecstasy.
Eighth: An 8th of an ounce of cannabis.
Elbow: 0.45kg (1lb) of pot.
Euphoria: High, "loved-up" feeling, commonly induced by drugs such as ecstasy.

F

Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers: Cult dope smoking cartoon characters created by Gilbert Shelton in 1970.
Fat One: A big, fat joint.
Fatty Boom Batty: A big, fat mother of a joint.
Fives: A £5 draw of cannabis
Fix: Dose of drugs
Flashback: Vivid recollection of a past experience on acid. Flashbacks can occur weeks, months or rarely years after the actual acid experience. While short-lived, they can be disorientating and scary.
Flatpress: Cannabis resin.
Flying: Very high.
Food: Cannabis.
Fucked: Completely intoxicated, beyond any normal communication with others.
Fuzz (The): The police.

G

Ganja: Cannabis. Hindi for "sweet smelling" and adopted by Jamaicans after 1845 when East Indians were brought in to work on sugar plantations.
Gauching: Heavily sedated due to use of opiates. The user appears very drowsy and may drop off in mid sentence or activity.
Gear: Cannabis or heroin.
Get Off: Get high.
Goey: Speed, sulphate.
Grass: Cannabis.
Green: Cannabis in its natural weed state. Often skunk. Not solid or resin.
Grinder: Crushing device used for breaking up cannabis from weed form or solid form into powder.
Gurn: To chew & chomp the insides of your mouth or grind your teeth together. Side effect of ecstasy.
Gurner: Someone who gurns.

H

Hand Bomb: Smoking technique: When a joint is near the end, the smoker places it between his/ her fingers and cups both hands together tightly. Hands are held over the mouth, allowing no air to escape and the smoker inhales without having to put hot roach into his/her mouth.
Hallucinogenic: A substance that causes the taker to see things that aren't there, as in trips/ LSD.
Happy Cigarette: Joint.
Hash/ Hashish: Solid or resin form of cannabis.
Hemp: Stalk and stem of the cannabis plant, traditionally used to make rope and fabric.
Henry - Henry the Eighth: An 8th of an ounce of cannabis.
Herb: Jamaican term for marijuana.
High: The feeling of euphoria from drug taking.
High As A Kite: Popular phrase meaning very high on drugs.
Hippie Trail: Popular route used by 1960s pot-heads, going from Morocco to India with plenty of hash shops visited along the way.
Hit: The impact of a drug or the act of taking it, eg "Can I have a hit on that joint?"
Homegrown: Cannabis that has been cultivated on a small scale, usually for personal use.
Hookah Pipe: Large traditional smoking pipe from Eastern Europe & Arab countries. A social device, the hookah can be smoked by several people at once. Also known as a "Shisha pipe" or a "Hubbly Bubbly". Most famously used by the caterpillar in Alice In Wonderland.
Hot Box: Smoking method: A small area that a holds a few people, such as a car, is sealed so that it does not let any smoke escape while a joint is being passed. In this way, several people can get stoned very quickly by continually breathing in cannabis fumes.
Hot Knife: Smoking method: Two knives are heated on a stove then a lump of weed or hash is pressed between them. The smoke produced can be inhaled in a number of ways, for example you can put the knives into a small hole made in the side of a plastic milk bottle, keeping your hand over the top while the smoke settles, then drink/ inhale the smoke. Effects are very strong.
Hot Rock: Small piece of solid cannabis (hash) that falls onto your clothes, leaving a hole.
Hubbly Bubbly: See "Hookah Pipe".

I

Innit: "Isn't it?": Suffix used by young people to give themselves status among piers. It can be attached to any sentence, or inane utterance. Eg, "I'm gonna get mash-up tonight, innit?"
Irish Waterfall: Sometimes referred to as "French Inhale" (remember Frenchie from Grease?), to simultaneously breathe smoke out of your mouth and back in though your nose.

J

J: Short for "joint".
Jack & Jills: Pills (ecstasy).
Joint: Marijuana cigarette.
Junked Up: Full of junk. Like a junky.
Junky: Someone addicted to taking drugs - causing emotional, mental, social & financial problems.

L

Leaf: Marijuana.
Lean: High/ stoned.
Little Fellas: Ecstasy tablets.
Loaded: Very stoned.
Lou Reed: Weed OR speed.
Loved-Up: High, euphoric feeling associated with ecstasy. You want to touch & kiss everyone & tell them you love them.

M

Madman: MDMA
Marijuana: Term for cannabis made popular in Mexico. Translated, means "intoxicated".
Marley, Bob: Jamaican musician who promoted the use of herb through Rastafarianism.
Maryjane/ MJ: Female cannabis plant.
Mashed: Totally stoned or under the influence of other drugs causing complete uselessness.
Mash-Up: Mashed up. See "Mashed".
MDMA: Methylenedioxymethylamphetamine: true Ecstasy.
Microdot: Strong type of LSD.
Monged: See "Mashed".
Munchies: The urge to eat when stoned.
Mullered: Completely intoxicated. Out of control.
Munted: Smashed; totally intoxicated.
Mushies: Magic mushrooms.

N

Nine Bar: 9 oz of Cannabis
Northern Lights: Very strong strain of cannabis sativa plant.

O

On Tick: Drugs that the user has not yet paid for, eg "I got this hash on tick." (see "Tick").
Ozone: PCP.

P

PCP: White crystalline powder. Medical use of PCP in humans was discontinued because patients often became agitated, delusional and irrational. Often referred to as "angel dust," "ozone," "wack" and "rocket fuel." Nasty stuff.
Philly Blunt: A cigar hollowed out and refilled with cannabis. Derived from the trade name of the American cigar, Philly Panatellas.
Pick Up: Collect or "score" some drugs.
Pigs (The): The police.
Play Station: Electronic games console used by pot-heads who can no longer communicate with living beings.
Pollen: The male element in flowering plants; usually a fine dust produced by the anthers which fertilises the seeds.
Poppers: Amyl or butyl nitrate, used to intensify orgasms or just for a head-expanding hit.
Pod: Cannabis.
Pokey Bit: Something used to pack down the loose bits of tobacco and cannabis in a joint before lighting.
Pot: Cannabis.
Pot Head: Someone who smokes a lot of cannabis.
Psychedelic: Describes something that induces mind expansion (philosophical insights, mystical feelings, visions etc.) This could be a drug like LSD or simply visual decoration or audio stimulants that inspire free thought.
Psychoactive: A substance that affects and alters the mind or behaviour.
Puff: Weed, cannabis, marijuana, etc.
Pull A Whitey: See "Whitey"
Purple Haze: A cannabis strain similar to Skunk but with a much more mellow effect. So-called due to its purple colour.
Punk: Skunk

Q

Quarter: ¼ of an ounce of cannabis

R

Rasta/ Rastafarian: Someone who follows Rastafarianism (movement started in Jamaica in the early 1920s rejecting Jamaican & European culture in favour of an eventual repatriation to Africa). Generally, one who opposes white domination and looks towards a greater black identity and pride. Rasta thought, reggae music, dance, and literature have become popular in many cultures worldwide. Many people believe that all Rasta smoke cannabis.
Red Eye: Common symptom of cannabis smoking - the whites of your eyes turn red & veiny.
Reefer: Joint. Appeared in use at the turn of the century and still used today.
Resin: Cannabis in solid form.
Rizla: Brand of rolling papers.
Rips: Smoking paper on a roll that can be ripped off to make joints of any length.
Roach: Rolled up cardboard filter used in joints. Often made from torn off card from smoking paper packets.
Rocket Fuel: PCP.
Rushing: Intense feeling of "butterflies" rushing through the body whilst coming up, usually on ecstasy.

S

Score: Buy drugs.
Serve Up: Deal drugs.
Shisha Pipe: See "Hookah Pipe".
Sinsemilla: From Spanish: "sin" means without/ "semilla" means seeds. Unfertilised female plant.
Sensi: Short for "Sensimilla".
Shit: Cannabis or other illegal drugs.
Shotting: Selling drugs.
Shroom: Magic mushroom.
Sick: Good
Skank: To steal from or swindle someone in a drugs deal.
Skins: Papers used for rolling cigarettes.
Skin Up: Make a cannabis cigarette/ joint.
Skunk: Very strong sinsemilla, often derived from Afghani marijuana.
Smashed: Completely wasted.
Smoke: Cannabis.
Sniff: To inhale drugs through your nostril.
Snort: To inhale drugs through your nostril.
Snorter: Tube shaped instrument used to snort drugs.
Snow: Cocaine.
Snuff: Cocaine.
Solid: Cannabis resin in a solid piece.
Space Cakes: Cannabis cakes.
Spaced/ Spaced Out: Lost in your own hazy world of stonedness & surrealism.
Speed: Sulphate, amphetamines.
Spike: To add drugs to another concoction, unbeknown to the taker.
Spliff: Joint. Jamaican word, now used worldwide.
Squidgy Black: Soft, pliable, solid cannabis. Can be rolled into thin, sausage-like pieces and put into joints.
Stash: A supply of hidden drugs.
Stoned: Common term for being under the influence of cannabis.
Stoner: Person who gets stoned a lot.

T

Tab: Paper LSD tab.
Tampon: A joint that's too thick and looks like an expanded tampon.
Taxi: Game played by groups of smokers to get stoned quickly: the aim is to hold your smoke while the joint gets passed around a circle. You may exhale when the joint gets back to you.
Tea: Marijuana.
Teenth: A 16th of an ounce of cannabis.
Thai Stick: Thai weed wrapped around a stick.
THC/ Tetrahydrocannabinol: Psychoactive cannabinoid in marijuana that causes the high. Only female plants have this chemical.
Toke: To inhale from a joint.
Toot: To inhale drugs through your nostril.
Tootflute: Tube shaped instrument used to snort drugs.
Tick: To take drugs from a dealer with the arrangement to pay later.
Trip: LSD
Trippy: Psychedelic or hallucinogenic.
Tripping: Under the influence of psychedelic or hallucinogenic drugs.
Tulip: Expert joint construction with a really fat head in the shape of a tulip that you can pack loads of cannabis into.
Twatted: Beyond all comprehension due to getting too high.

U

Uppers: Stimulant drugs.

V

Vapouriser: Device used for inhaling cannabis vapour without the harmful carcinogenic substances associated with smoking. Vapourising is the healthiest method of cannabis consumption except for eating it.
Vrot: bad/awful/horrible, africaan slang

W

Wack: PCP.
Wacky Baccy: Cannabis.
Wasted: Completely intoxicated and unable to control yourself.
Weed: Grass, cannabis, marijuana?
Whitey: Your ghostly white face when you've passed out due to smoking too much marijunana, hence "Pull a Whitey".
Whizz: Billy Whizz, speed, sulphate, amphetamines.
Wired: Unable to do anything - eat, sleep, make conversation, think straight, possibly even shag - after a heavy drug taking session.
Wrap: Small paper envelope of powdered drugs. Used for selling & transporting convenience.
