San Pedro is a highly potent psychoactive cactus containing mescaline, mainly found in the Andes. It has been used for centuries among the indigenous peoples of its home, in particular the Chavin culture (1400 ' 400 BC) in the highlands of Peru. The Chavin people claimed it gave them powers of insight ' a visual force that allowed a person to transmit him/herself through time and matter, thus naming it 'Peruvian Torch'.

To safely ingest this plant a person would have boiled it with some lemon or lime juice to make an infusion. More detailed information on it's preparation can be found in various sites on the internet.
